Roger Norrington
Roger Norrington studied at the Royal College of Music under Sir Adrian Boult amongst others. He worked as a tenor in the 1960's and founded the Schutz choir in 1962. He was music director of Kent Opera from 1964 to 1982 and founded the London Classical Players in 1978, remaining their musical director until 1997. From 1990 to 1994 he was music director of the Orchestra of St. Luke's. In 1998 he became principal conductor of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Roger Norrington is best known for his performances of Baroque, Classical and Romantic music using period instruments and period style. He has conducted recordings of Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Berlioz and Brahms on period instruments. He was made an OBE in 1980, a CBE in 1990 and a Knight Bachelor in 1997. Read more on Last.fm.
